Samuel Darrin has been selected by the National Association for Music Education to sing in the 2018 All-National Honor Ensemble at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in November.

This is the first time a student from Howland High School’s choir has auditioned for the prestigious opportunity. The All-National Honor Ensembles consist of a jazz ensemble, mixed choir, guitar ensemble, symphony orchestra and concert band. Students were chosen through an audition process. The jazz ensemble will have 20 instrumentalists, the mixed choir 240 vocalists, the guitar ensemble 47 guitarists, the symphony orchestra 122 instrumentalists and the concert band 121 instrumentalists.

Darrin is a three-year member of Howland High School’s choir, the Howland Chamber Choir and the Howland Pop A Cappella Ensemble, Another Way.  He is also a two-year member of the OMEA All-State Honors Choir, two-year member of the Kent State All Star Honors Choir and one-year member of the Cleveland Orchestra Youth Chorus Honors Choir.  Darrin has also received the highest marks as a soloist and instrumentalist in OMEA Solo & Ensemble Contest. Additionally, he is a four-year member of the Howland High School band and current band president.  He is a three-year member of the Symphonic Band as 1st chair trombone player and the current Drum Major (2 years) of the Tiger Marching Band. Darrin is a member of the audition-only Youngstown Symphony Youth Orchestra, 1st chair Trombone.  His other musical activities include participation in the Howland Drama Club as the current president. His leading roles include Ryan in High School Musical, Beast in Beauty and the Beast, and Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls. In the community, Darrin is a member of the Howland United Methodist Church Choir and Praise Band, as well as assistant of the Warren Civic Chorus Children’s Choir.
