Third annual post-prom event scheduled for Howland High School students

The annual post-prom party for Howland High School students will be held on May 11, 2019.

Three years ago, a group of concerned parents and students formed a committee to plan and host a post-prom event for all junior and senior students at Howland High School. The event has become a tradition due to its success over the last two years. The goal of the committee is to give students a safe, drug and alcohol free party following the dance. All juniors and seniors are welcome, even if they choose not to attend the dance.

As with many communities, Howland cares deeply for their students. Holding the post-prom party is a win-win situation for the students and the community. Statistically, prom season brings an increased risk of teen accidents and fatalities. Students often want to continue celebrating after the dance, yet the options for continuing the celebration are not always ideal. The fear of having a tragedy in Howland is what drives the committee to work so hard to put on this event. Parents of former students who have previously attended the party have gotten involved and expressed their appreciation for keeping their children safe. The involved parents know the value of this event, as they were able to rest easy prom night knowing their teens were in a safe environment. The students, in turn, were able to stay out all night and make lasting memories with their friends.

In planning this event, the committee’s goal is to have activities that are fun for students, while providing transportation and unlimited refreshments. The committee also wants to reward each student for making the positive choice to attend by offering great prizes. It is also important to keep the ticket price at a reasonable cost for students, as prom can be quite expensive.

Following the dance on May 11, students will be transported by bus to Fun N Stuff in Macedonia, Ohio. Fun N Stuff is an indoor/outdoor amusement venue that offers after prom packages. They will only host Howland High School students for the all-night party. Party goers will have access to laser tag, go-karts, roller skating, mini golf, bumper cars, arcade games, bowling, euro bungee, batting cages, laser room, human hamster balls and extreme looping bikes, as well as food and beverages. Students will have the opportunity to win a variety of door prizes ranging in value of $10-$500 including gift cards, event tickets, movie tickets and dorm/first apartment items. A local business has also donated a $500 scholarship/cash prize to be awarded to a student who attends.

The committee’s end goal is for students to have fun, stay safe, make lasting memories and to end the night happy that they chose the post prom party.

The committee is still seeking donations of gift cards, prizes, food, as well as monetary donations. Any donations received will be advertised and displayed on Howland High School’s “Wall of Thanks”. Anyone interested in donating or learning more about the Howland High School post-prom party can email the committee at Information can also be found at
