Mahoning Valley Powers Scholarship

Through the generosity of the Powers Trust, several scholarships are available (up to $5,000) to incoming 2012-2013 Youngstown State University freshmen who are graduating from a Mahoning or Trumbull County high school.

Applicants who may not be considering college because of cost, or who are unable to obtain a bachelor's degree without significant student load debt, are encouraged to apply. These scholarships will be renewable for an additional three years with full-time attendance and satisfactory academic progress.

GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs
Scholarships

The GFWC/Ohio Federation of Women's Clubs offers the following four scholarships. The requirements for each vary. The application deadline for all scholarships is February 1, 2012. Click the name of each scholarship for the information page for qualification and application details.

The Ethel G. Swanbeck Allied Health Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating senior pursuing a course of study in an Allied Health Field and enrolled at an accredited Ohio college or university.

The Elaine Weinman Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating high school senior pursuing a course of study in the field of Communication Arts at an accredited Ohio college, university or technical school.

The OFWC Art Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating high school senior enrolled at an accredited Ohio art school, college, or university. For this scholarship, email Jonnah Hetzel to make arrangements to drop off artwork.

The Annette Phelps Lincoln Scholarship
Awarded to a graduating high school senior in the upper one-third of their graduating class and is limited to the teaching and/or library professions at an accredited Ohio college or university.

KFC Colonel's Scholars

KFC Colonel's Scholars is looking for high school seniors with financial need and an entrepreneurial spirit to qualify for the KFC Colonel's Scholars Program. Awards are up to $20,000 for tuition, fees, textbooks, room and board.

To qualify, graduating high school seniors must:

*Earn a minimum high school cumulative GPA of 2.75
*Enroll in a public college or university within
their state of legal residence
*Plan to pursue a bachelor's degree
*Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

The Mahoning Valley Chapter of Credit Unions

The Mahoning Valley Chapter of Credit Unions is proud to announce its 2012 scholarship program. The Mahoning Valley Chapter of Credit Unions will award ONE scholarship, in the amount of $1,000.

To qualify, an applicant must be at least a senior in high school and plan to participate in post-secondary studies, including professional, vocational, and academic studies not limited to colleges and universities.

WKBN 27 Caring for our Community
Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship Contest

The WKBN 27 Caring for Our Community campaign will award one junior or senior high school student from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, or Mercer County a
$1,500 college scholarship. Students will have to write a 30 second Public Service Announcement for a local non-profit organization

New this year will be a Video Category. Students can submit a 30 second completed video Public Service Announcement on a DVD. The winner of this new category will receive a $200 prize.

The James Kura Memorial Scholarship

The Ohio Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers will award three $1,000 scholarships to Ohio high school seniors based on an essay to the following question:

Should the police be allowed to search an individual's
cell phone, including text messages and emails, without a warrant? Discuss what limitations, if any,
there should be and why.

Shenango Valley Foundation

Eligible candidates include cancer survivors who are going into any field of study, and any student whose life has been touched by cancer and who is pursuing a course of study in the fields of medicine or medical research.

Wolves Club of Trumbull County

The Wolves Club of Trumbull County is sponsoring two scholarship programs. The Trumbull County wolves Scholarships are open to all Trumbull County High School Seniors. The ACIM Scholarships are open to all Trumbull County Italian-American High School seniors.

Last year, the Wolves Club awarded a total of $22,000 to deserving Trumbull County seniors.

eSchoolView Web Design Contest and
Web Page Development Contest

eSchoolView is offering two scholarship contest in which seniors interested in pursuing Web design or development at the post secondary level can earn $1,000 scholarships to use for any educational expense.

Each contest will be graded by a panel of professionals in Web design and development. Using judging rubrics provided by eSchoolView, the judges will select the top five entries in each category, and those students will be awarded $1,000 scholarships.

Seven Seventeen Credit Union will award eight $1,500 scholarships to members of the credit union or the legal dependent of a Seven Seventeen member.

The William D. Squires Scholarship is primarily a financial need-based scholarship. The award amount is $3,000 per calendar year and is renewable up to three additional years for a total of $12,000.
