Howland Local School District Philosophy of

English Language Arts

 

The Howland Local School District believes that reading is an essential ingredient to a successful education and that all teachers are reading teachers. Reading instruction is an on-going process that requires differentiation based on individual needs as determined by a variety of assessments. The district will ensure:

 

· The use of an aligned, standards based curriculum.

· Instructional materials are aligned to the district curriculum.

· Curriculum materials encourage the use of higher order thinking skills-21st Century Skills.

· A Language Arts block.

· High-quality professional development.

· Student performance will be monitored to properly differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
