Language Arts Philosophy

 

The Howland Local School District believes that reading is an essential ingredient to a successful education and that all teachers are reading teachers. Reading instruction is an on-going process that requires differentiation based on individual needs as determined by a variety of assessments. The district will ensure:

¨ the use of an aligned, standards based curriculum.

¨ instructional materials are aligned to the district curriculum.

¨ curriculum materials encourage the use of higher order thinking skills-21st Century Skills.

¨ a Language Arts  block.

¨ high-quality professional development.

¨ Student performance will be monitored to properly differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
