Two Howland High School students and one recent graduate are among some of the county’s most impressive young leaders.
The Tribune Chronicle, along with Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley and Kent State University Trumbull recently unveiled their 2020 Class of Twenty Under 20, which includes Howland High School seniors Lukea Pitinii and Grant Myers, as well as Howland High School Class of 2021 graduate Maria Anastasiades.
The Tribune Chronicle’s Class of Twenty Under 20 is in its 9th year. The program recognizes students for their leadership skills through volunteerism, extracurricular activities and academic achievement. Pitinii, Myers and Anastasiades will be featured in a magazine this month, as well as honored at the Class of Twenty Under 20 banquet.
Lukea Pitinii - Class of 2022 Lukea currently maintains a 4.422 GPA and is on pace to graduate Summa Cum Laude. Lukea serves as president of the National Honor Society and a committee member of Pep Club. She is on Student Senate and served as their treasurer during the 2020-2021 school year. Lukea is a member of Drama Club. She has participated in the YSU English Festival. She is a featured twirler for the Howland High School Marching Band. Throughout her time at Howland High School, she participated in HHS Serves and has volunteered her time tutoring, helping with food drives and benefit dinners, as well as with the Howland United Methodist’s Backpack Program. Outside of school, she is a competitive twirler at Shining Stars Dance and Baton. After high school, Lukea hopes to study biology/pre-med.
Grant Myers - Class of 2022 Grant currently maintains a 4.4 GPA and is on pace to graduate Summa Cum Laude. Grant is a member of the football and track and field teams. He is currently the president of the Pep Club. He is a member of National Honor Society and serves as a class representative. Grant volunteers his time tutoring kindergarten students at Springs Primary School. Outside of school, he is a member of North Mar Church, where he serves as a youth leader. After high school, Grant hopes to study business management with aspirations of entering the pharmaceutical sales industry.
Maria Anastasiades - Class of 2021 Maria received an Academic Honors Diploma after graduating Summa Cum Laude. While at Howland High School, Maria was a member of National Honor Society and was a Howland Scholar. She played the lead role of Ariel in The Little Mermaid Musical. She volunteered at the Howland High School carnival, at the Howland Township tree lighting, at the St Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church Festival, at the Youngstown Festival of the Arts and at OHWOW. During her time in school, Maria also helped the Howland Choir Boosters with their fundraisers, and collected toys and games for patients at Akron Children’s Hospital in Boardman. Maria currently attends Youngstown State University.
