During the COVID-19 pandemic, the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) issued waivers to child nutrition programs across the country allowing schools to offer free meals to students. For the past two years, Howland Schools has been able to take advantage of these waivers and provide free breakfast and lunch to all of our students. These waivers will expire on June 30, 2022.  As a result, child nutrition programs nationwide will be returning to pre-pandemic operations.  Howland families will once again be asked to complete and submit a free/reduced meal application in order to qualify for assistance for the 2022-23 school year. Applications will be extremely important and necessary for students in order to obtain meal assistance and to have school fees reduced or waived next year.

Parents/guardians, to ensure that your students are ready for the start of the 2022-23 school year and to eliminate the possibility of negative meal balances and unpaid school fees, please fill out a 22-23 free/reduced meals application beginning July 1, 2022. The deadline to complete the form is October 5, 2022.

Free/reduced meal applications can be completed and submitted in two different ways:

  1. Online. You must register a student account with PaySchools Central in order to fill out the application online. Once the account is set up and you are logged in, locate the menu dropdown icon on the dashboard and select the Free/Reduced Meal Application option. Then follow the instructions on the screen.

  2. Printed. Applications can be printed from the Howland Food Service website, picked up at the student’s school building or Food Service Office, completed in its entirety, and returned to the school building or Food Service office.

School Meal Pricing 2022-2023:  Breakfast: $1.75        K-4: $3.00      5-12 Lunch: $3.50

The Howland Food Service Department is committed to assisting families and making this transition back to normal operations as easy as possible.  Please feel free to contact our office at 330-856-8211 if you have any questions or need assistance.
