Deadline

Dear Families,

As Howland Local Schools finalizes logistics based on parental input and enrollment numbers for the full-time online remote learning model, I have seen enough data to be able to extend the deadline for parents to make their final decision to select the remote learning option to Monday, August 17, 2020.

Remote learning will be utilizing Calvert learning for students in grades K-5, and Courseware through Edmentum will be used for students in grades 6-12. I hope this extension will reduce anxieties for both parents and students.  Although a lot of information has been shared in the district's Q and A document that is on the website, the district's final restart plan will be shared with families by Monday, August 10, 2020, to offer additional insight for families. Reminder, Howland does not start school until September 8, 2020.  So, the decisions and planning you see from friends in other communities may be relevant to the timelines for schools starting in August.

Lastly, I can’t stress enough how much we understand the anxieties in making these difficult decisions for your children.   I can assure you that we do understand and share in your anxiousness as we make these same decisions for our own families. We want to assure you that whatever decisions you make for your children are absolutely the right ones.  You know your children and family situations best.  We will continue to do our best to adjust to the rapid changes coming at us and work to support our families in the decision they make during this unprecedented journey.

We are all working through this together!
