At Howland High School, we strive to not only promote military opportunities for our students as part of our College and Career Readiness (3 E's - Enroll, Enlist, Employ) but also strive to support our military families and students from families who serve. We work closely with our local military recruiters to provide exposure to and educate our students about military opportunities.
HHS offers the STAR Program in conjunction with the US ARMY. See the Academic Catalog for more info. For further inquiries about enlistment see our Student Services & Guidance Office.
Howland High School is located near the Youngstown - Warren Air Reserve Station in Vienna, OH and many of our students come from families who serve or work at the base.

Military Family Liaison: Role and Responsibilities
The role of a Military Family Liaison is to act as a school’s primary point-of-contact for the needs of military families. Military-connected students can move six to nine times during their parent or guardian’s military career. These students can face hardships brought on by frequent moves, a service member’s absence due to deployment and the difficulties of post-deployment reintegration.
Some of the support provided to military families can also be extended to students with other military connections such as siblings and extended family. Veteran families may need support due to lasting effects from military service. Schools that take on the responsibilities listed here are eligible for the Purple Star Designation.
