Howland High School student Vincent Weeks is earning national attention for his research project.
Weeks received a national award from the Office of Naval Research for his study on how temperature impacts golf ball compression.
For his project, he tested three different brands of Callaway golf balls. After letting the balls sit in various temperatures for three hours, he applied 200 pounds of force to measure how they reacted.
His findings showed that temperature plays a key role in performance. Higher compression golf balls tended to perform better in colder temperatures, while lower compression balls were better suited for warmer conditions.
It’s an impressive project that combines science with real-world application, and earned Vincent recognition on a national level!
