Kindergarten Student Recognized with Pillar of Inspiration Award

At a recent Howland Board of Education meeting, Sarah Lanham, a kindergarten student at Howland Springs Primary School, was recognized with the Pillar of Inspiration Award.

Sarah has Osteogenesis Imperfecta, commonly known as Brittle Bone Disease. Because her bones are highly vulnerable to fractures, she recently underwent surgery to have a steel rod placed in her leg to assist with walking.

Due to her condition, Sarah is unable to participate in recess or gym class. Instead, she spends that time in the clinic playing board games or cards with our school nurse. Even routine procedures, such as a fire drill, require her to wait for a wheelchair to safely exit the building.

Despite these challenges, Sarah comes to school each day with a positive attitude. She enjoys spending time with friends, works hard in the classroom and is surpassing all kindergarten standards! She is also known for offering hugs to classmates and staff.

Sarah was presented with the Pillar of Inspiration Award at the meeting. Her father, Shane, was in attendance and is pictured with her!
