Howland Local Schools proudly recognizes its board members during School Board Recognition Month in January. Led by Superintendent Kevin Spicher, the district expresses gratitude to Board President Wendy Miller, Vice President Julie Altawil, and members Dr. Ken Jones, Jeff Pegg and Brianne Perry for their dedication and commitment to shaping the future of Howland's schools and students.
“The dedication, commitment, and vision of our school board members shape the future of our schools and students. Their focus is always on helping all our students be successful in their future endeavors. Celebrating School Board Recognition Month is one way to say thanks for all they do," said Superintendent Kevin Spicher.
Serving as a vital link between the community and the classroom, school board members are elected to establish policies that provide the framework for public schools. The Howland Local Schools board oversees an annual budget of approximately $42 million, approximately 2380 students, 315 employees and five schools.
We're thrilled to share that 19 students from Howland Local Schools recently received a boost for their academic journey, courtesy of an initiative led by The Trumbull County Educational Service Center and its English Language Learner (ELL) Consortium.
The ELL Consortium, comprising 13 public school districts in Trumbull County, played a crucial role in providing backpacks, crayons, notebooks, and other essential school supplies to approximately 200 students in Trumbull County whose native language is not English.
This donation was made possible through the generous support of the United Way of Trumbull County and the English Language Learner Consortium. This initiative is part of the United Way's broader program, United "4 Kids," to foster student success in school and beyond.

Over the last few days, the spirit of giving thrived at Howland High School! Students in the Principles of Foods and Global Foods class embarked on their annual baking extravaganza, which started on Thursday and concluded on Monday.
Guided by teacher, Perri Graf, our students put their culinary skills to work, creating tasty treats with a special purpose. On Tuesday, students came together to package up the freshly baked goods for delivery to Veterans’ Outreach!
Perri Graf shared, "Giving back to the community was a very important lesson for the students. Many organizations were suffering from the lack of volunteers. This was just one of the ways I encouraged students to get involved.”
Howland High School senior Francis (Joey) Gajski recently clinched a spot as a top 5 finalist in the Tribune Chronicle's 20 under Twenty.
As part of his achievement, Joey received a monetary award to donate to a charity of his choice. For the past several years, Joey has been a volunteer with the Vienna VFW Post 3521, and he decided to give back to an organization close to his heart. Joey chose to support Veterans Outreach, an organization that collaborates with Vienna VFW Post 3521. Not only did Joey make a donation, but the Vienna VFW Post 3521 generously matched his donation.
This week, Joey, alongside Vienna VFW Post 3521 members Mark Thomson and Jeff Dreves presented the donation to Veterans Outreach!
Members of the Howland Police Department took 10 of our students on a shopping trip during their annual Shop with a Cop event! Students stopped by Target and were treated to dinner at Salvatore's Pizza in the Eastwood Mall. We appreciate our school resource officers and school staff who helped make this a successful event!
Our Leadership and Community Engagement students recently met with Dr. Angela Natoli to tour the new location of her business Howland Health and Wellness, which also houses the Berry Blended Smoothie Bar. Our students not only tried some of the smoothies, but they also offered their insights on how to elevate the brand through a class project!
Howland High School's CCP Science students had an unforgettable experience this fall at Ohio State's Stone Laboratory! The Stone Laboratory serves scientists from across the Great Lakes region, offering lab facilities, field work equipment, research vessels and housing for researchers studying Lake Erie!

As we wrap up our fall sports season, we want to recognize our boys varsity soccer team for winning the D2 Sectional title and the D2 District title. We also want to congratulate Levin Loomis who was a D1 regional qualifier in cross country.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming to Howland Jr. High and Howland Intermediate! Our book fair runs November 13 – November 17. Book fair packets that include the shopping schedule will be given to students on November 9. Please review the information in the packets so the students are prepared to shop.
