We were honored to welcome Dr. Kate Ferguson from Youngstown State University—Director of Athletic Bands, Director of the YSU Concert Band and Professor of Music Education—for a band clinic with our 7th and 8th grade musicians! Dr. Ferguson provided our students with real-world, college-level feedback to help them prepare for their Spring Concert on May 14. She also shared the many career paths available in music and the arts.

Third-grade student Canaan Sylvester has been named the Third Grade Winner of the Trumbull County Bar Association’s Law Day Art and Essay Contest! This year’s theme, “The Constitution’s Promise: Out of Many, One,” encouraged students to reflect on the importance of unity and the rule of law. Canaan, along with his family and teacher Mrs. Cindy Baer, will be honored at a special luncheon on May 1st at DiLucia’s, featuring Judge John Eklund of the Eleventh District Court of Appeals.

Our Howland High School AP Government students got a first-hand look at how our local court system works! On Monday, students visited Warren Municipal Court to observe arraignments and learn directly from Judge Natasha K. Natale, who invited our students and spoke with them before court proceedings. In addition to hearing from Judge Natale, students also had the opportunity to hear from attorneys, officers, and other court staff, gaining valuable insights into the roles and responsibilities within the judicial system. A big thank you to Judge Natale and the Warren Municipal Court team for this incredible opportunity!

We're proud to shine a light on Howland senior Theresa Cranston, who just wrapped up her term on the Ohio Attorney General’s Teen Ambassador Board! Over the past year, Theresa has gained an inside look at Ohio law and government, participated in statewide events, collaborated with peers on real-world issues, and made valuable connections with public officials—including Attorney General Dave Yost.
As she prepares to attend The Ohio State University, Theresa will carry these experiences with her and continue to build on the relationships she formed during her time on the board.

Recently, our 8th grade music tech students got a real-world look at careers in audio engineering & music technology with special guest Dr. Dan Keown from YSU! Students explored audio synthesis—creating new sounds using filters, samples, synthesizers, and even a Theremin (yes, like from Star Trek).

Howland Junior High School students recently attended the 47th Annual YSU English Festival, where they celebrated a year of reading with a day full of games, trivia, poetry workshops, and literary fun—all centered around the seven books they read throughout the year! Students attended a special session with author Alan Gratz, who shared insights into his writing process. Some students even got to meet him and have their books personally signed!
