As we hit the midway point of the 1st nine weeks, our FCCLA (Family, Career and Community Leaders of America) members came together to spread some positivity! Co-president Alana Olszewski led the way by creating autumn-themed tags with the slogan "Don't Fall Behind." Each tag included a personal message from our FCCLA members, along with a sweet treat! This morning, a group of our members delivered these uplifting notes to approximately 140 random students throughout the school, brightening their day and offering encouragement as we head into the second half of the quarter! 🍁 #FCCLA #FallMotivation #DontFallBehind #SpreadPositivity

This summer, Howland High School student Tasso Anastasiades attended the National Student Leadership Conference (NSLC) in Baltimore, MD, held at Johns Hopkins University campus! For 9 days, Tasso stayed in the dorms and participated in hands-on leadership and aerospace engineering sessions. One standout moment? His team won 1st place in the Mission to Mars project, where Tasso was on the transit vehicle team! We’re proud of how Tasso represented Howland High School at this prestigious event! #HowlandPride #NSLC #Leadership

Dear Students and Families, Welcome back to a new school year! We hope you had a relaxing and rejuvenating summer! We’re excited to embark on this journey together and look forward to students once again filling the halls of our schools for another year of learning and growth! As we start the year, we want to remind everyone of the new District-wide state aligned cell phone restriction policy that requires students to keep their phones/personal electronic devices off and stored away during school hours. This policy is designed to help our students stay focused, fully engaged, and happy during their educational and social experiences at school without the disruptive distractions from cell phones/PEDs. Please refer to your child's school handbook for additional information. Additionally, we are excited to kickoff the year with a new communications platform being rolled out in the coming weeks. This new initiative will not only assist families, students, and staff to stay connected, but offer immediate alerts and enhanced 2-way communications to families in the event of a situation or emergency within a classroom, school, or the District. Lastly, we want to remind everyone about the ongoing construction and road closures in our area, which will continue to cause some traffic challenges during drop-off and pick-up times. We understand that this may be frustrating and inconvenient, and we ask for your understanding, patience, and courtesy to others as we all navigate this situation together. We encourage everyone to allow extra time for travel, and to be mindful of students and other drivers in school zones and parking lots. By working together and showing consideration for one another, we can help ensure the safety of our students and a smoother transport experience for everyone. Finally, we want to welcome our seniors to the beginning of their last year of high school! Although graduation might seem far away, it will be here in a flash - embrace it! Thank you to our families for continued collaboration and support as we work together to foster the most conducive educational environment for students and make this school year one of the best! Best regards, Kevin Spicher, Superintendent GO TIGERS!

We're excited to share our new electronic annual report calendar with you! Starting this school year, the calendar will no longer be shared in hardcopy form. Instead, we will be sending out a minimum of three printed newsletters per school year to keep you updated on the latest events and happenings in our schools. Click here to view the 24-25 calendar: https://5il.co/2t22i You can download the calendar and print it from home at your convenience. The best part of moving to an electronic format is that we can update the calendar throughout the year, ensuring it remains accurate and up-to-date for your quick access from the app or website. We look forward to the start of a new school year!

Dear Students, Families, and Staff: I am saddened to inform you that one of our families with children enrolled in our middle school has recently suffered a most tragic loss, resulting from an automobile crash. It is difficult for me to share that the incident claimed the life of the family’s father, Nathan Bogacki and their two children, Emma, 17 and Grant, 13, a Howland Middle School student. Their youngest daughter, Aubrey 11, also a middle school student remains hospitalized. We know a variety of emotions will follow and want to be there to support this family’s mother, Nicole, as she and her extended family grieve and work to cope with this tragedy and the recovery of Aubry. It is for this reason that we especially want you to know of of our care and support to the Bogacki family and others in our school family. Therefore, we have initiated crises response plans to assist students, families, and staff with emotional needs related to this sudden tragedy, and will have school counselors and emotional support staff available at the Howland Middle School Wednesday, July 24 between 10am -2pm. Referrals will also be offered for support/psychology services and community based organizations as requested. This window of time will be extended as necessary to ensure we accommodate any students, families, or staff needing emotional support during this difficult time. With a heavy heart on behalf of the staff and BOE, Kevin Spicher Superintendent
