Fire safety day for 2nd grade students at Howland Glen! A big thank you to the Howland Fire Department!

Hello Glen Families, The Harvest/Costume Party at Howland Glen will be held on Friday, Oct. 29th. This party is NOT open to parents/guardians. However, our PTO has selected a couple of volunteers for each class to help facilitate the craft and games. A few things to keep in mind: 1. Please do not send your child to school dressed in any part of his/her costume. 2. Please use your best judgement when designing your child's costume. It should be easy to put on, no blood, weapons or extreme gore should be considered appropriate. 3. In consideration of children and adults with asthma, do not send in any type of hair spray (including paint). 4. Do not send in any food items to be distributed. 5. There will be no costume parade this year. However, we do invite you and your student(s) to attend our "Rockin' October Costume Party" here at Howland Glen from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. This is an outdoor event - rain or shine! There will be an inflatable slide, rock painting, a scavenger hunt and more! Wear your costume and enjoy the fun! Kind Regards, Mr. Roth

Mrs. Bell’s class learning about life in the 1800’s. “Century Village in Burton, Ohio features a restored town that showcases life in Geauga County in the early 1800s.”

Mrs. Schrock’s class on Savvy Science Day. They read about the growth of the pumpkins to compare/contrast with what they learned about the life cycle of the apple tree. They then checked if the pumpkin would float and found all the parts that they read about!

It was fire safety day here at Howland Glen! A big thank you to the Howland Fire Department for helping our students learn more about fire safety. The students loved seeing some of the cool equipment that they use to do their job!

Happy Labor Day Glen families! We anticipate a large number of car riders during the first two weeks of school, so here are some reminders to help speed up the process when dropping off and picking up your child. Please pull all the way up to the stop sign in the unloading/loading zone or pull close to the car in front of you. We would like to have as many cars as possible unloading/loading between the two signs (the zone) as possible. This ensures that we can send groups of cars through in waves. Do not wait until you are at front to have your child exit if you are already in the zone. Doing so slows down the process and holds up empty cars behind you. Please have your child exit on the driver’s side so they are not walking between vehicles. Doors will open around 8:45 a.m. and someone will signal you to have your child exit. (only if you are in the unloading zone). Pickup works in the same fashion and will begin between 3:15-3:20. Please have your car tag clearly visible. If you do not have your tag, please park and go to the main office with your photo ID after the buses have left. If your child requires buckling or other attention, please pull into a parking space so we may keep the line moving. For additional information and a map, please visit the Glen webpage. Hello Glen Families, This is a reminder that tomorrow is a FULL DAY of school and NOT an early release day. If you have an appointment and plan to pick your child up early from school, please remember to send in a note with your child. Also, please remember that you MUST bring your driver’s license to the office to sign your child out early. Thank you! Additionally, teachers will be busy next week, planning for our August summer school. Parents of students who meet the criteria will be informed via email in June. Thank you, Mr. Roth

You can send the Chromebook back in your child’s bookbag or drop it off at Glen between 9:30 and 2:30. Our Field Day is tomorrow and there are NO parent volunteers this year. Orders for tomorrow’s lunch have already been collected; if you did not indicate that your child would like a hot dog sack lunch, please send your child with a packed lunch. Additionally, please apply sunscreen before school, provide a beach towel for our picnic-style lunch and a water bottle. We will have multiple filling stations available. Hello Glen Families, I wanted to take a moment to remind everyone of our drop-off and pick-up times and procedures. Drop off takes place starting at 8:50 and ends at 9:00 a.m. Unloading takes place in the unloading zone between the two designated signs. Please do not release your student to enter the building before 8:50. Pick-up starts at 3:15 and is usually over by 3:25 p.m. Please have your student enter your vehicle on the driver's side as there may be cars passing on the passenger side.
