Our 6th-grade physical education classes at Howland Intermediate School are officially underway with the Team Tressel Fitness Challenge! Students are focusing on goal setting, perseverance and personal growth as they work to improve strength, endurance and healthy habits. This isn’t about being the best in the class… it’s about being better than you were yesterday. We’re proud to see our Tigers supporting one another and showing Tiger PRIDE in action. 🧡🖤

Our 6th grade students enjoyed a special field trip to the DeYor Performing Arts Center in Youngstown to watch Miracle on Easy Street. After the show, students wrapped up the day with lunch at the Eastwood Mall food court. Howland Intermediate School’s 6th grade ELA students explored the origins of the White Elephant tradition, which dates back to India. White elephants were once considered sacred and rare. So, receiving one from a king seemed like an honor… until the high cost of caring for it turned the “gift” into a burden! That’s how the meaning we know today was born.

After learning the history, students put their knowledge into action with a White Elephant gift exchange, and it did not disappoint.

Learning + laughter = a great day in ELA! 😂🎁
